Project ‘Train-Room’ Bringing CAD, Carpentry and Model Railways Together

Well this day has been coming for a while, even though ‘Boddington’ is a great layout that I have created like many other railway modellers we fell the need to expand! And yes I want to expand in a big way, around my household we like to call the room that my layout Boddington resides in the “Train Room” and I want to put a new Layout in there! At the moment I am just calling it “Project Train-Room” but I am sure I will find a suitable name for it as it come together.

The basis or “THE PLAN” for this new layout is based on these principles

  1. The Layout has to fit in “the Train Room”
  2. The “Train Room” must be easily changed in to a single bedroom at short notice (e.g. 2 Hours Notice)
  3. The “Train Room” Can be given a days notice be changed into a twin Bedroom
  4. The Layout must be easily dissembled and stored in my Workshop if need be
  5. The Bed in the “Train Room” Cannot come out

These specs are so that i can keep my partner happy and sill have a great new Layout to work on, So on with the design…

At the moment i only have a few first draft pictures to put up in this post, but as this project expands you will see article grow in great proportion…

The Track Plan

I have designed this track plan on DraftSight, but it gives you a rough idea of how the layout will look. I do have a bundle of drawn plans on paper that i will scan and post when I get chance.

Well I am still in the planning stage, I still have quite a way to go before I can construct this layout. But it will be quite an adventure! Keep coming back to find out how I am getting on….

Almost completed, the track plan for the layout, including the signalling system, next I will be planning the electrics.
