DIY Bath Panel For Under a £10

Article created on 22/05/2011 by Greg Durrant

This a very easy thing todo, you can make it a complacated job too. This is all dependent on you and how you wanted it to look. Well Ihad a day to do mine and i went for the “Good-Looking” way of doing things.

Well after a water leak, we needed to update the the bathroom. So I went down to the local B&Q and picked up two lengths of 50mm X 22mm, and a load of cladding all for under £10.

S0 first thing is to shape the top and bottom rails. The top rail first thing to do is cut the dado to receive the cladding, for this I used a strait quater inch router bit, I had to give it two passes  as the cladding was 8mm in width. The dado was made at a depth of 10mm and then I used a Roman Ogee router bit to mould the front top edge.

Then I move on to the bottom rail. For this i repeated the dado as I did on the  top rail, then I cut a half round with a 1/2 inch half round router bit. Now cut both rails to the size of the bath panel, and then dry fit for size. Once you have made the top and bottom rails now you can measure for the cladding, you measure now that you have the rail dry fitter cause you will have the exact size.

Then as like many bath panels, there will be pipes. So make a cardboard template of where the pipes are before you start cutting the cladding (very useful tip) as you can see I just measured up and started cutting and was left short on one of the slats of cladding. But this is no real worry to me as I am going to cover it with more boxing (I will be posting soon the out come of this soon.)

S0 Bath Panelling for a under £10, Not bad if I say so myself.
