DIY Bath Panel For Under a £10

This a very easy thing todo, you can make it a complacated job too. This is all dependent on you and how you wanted it to look. Well Ihad a day to do mine and i went for the “Good-Looking” way of doing things.

Well after a water leak, we needed to update the the bathroom. So I went down to the local B&Q and picked up two lengths of 50mm X 22mm, and a load of cladding all for under £10.

S0 first thing is to shape the top and bottom rails. The top rail first thing to do is cut the dado to receive the cladding, for this I used a strait quater inch router bit, I had to give it two passes  as the cladding was 8mm in width. The dado was made at a depth of 10mm and then I used a Roman Ogee router bit to mould the front top edge.

Then I move on to the bottom rail. For this i repeated the dado as I did on the  top rail, then I cut a half round with a 1/2 inch half round router bit. Now cut both rails to the size of the bath panel, and then dry fit for size. Once you have made the top and bottom rails now you can measure for the cladding, you measure now that you have the rail dry fitter cause you will have the exact size.

Then as like many bath panels, there will be pipes. So make a cardboard template of where the pipes are before you start cutting the cladding (very useful tip) as you can see I just measured up and started cutting and was left short on one of the slats of cladding. But this is no real worry to me as I am going to cover it with more boxing (I will be posting soon the out come of this soon.)

S0 Bath Panelling for a under £10, Not bad if I say so myself.

DrillPress

I do think that no workshop is complete with out a Drillpress (Piller Drill), that is all types of work shop be it carpentry, metalwork or a automotive garage. Well I brought my self this small  Titan SF13N from my local B&Q Warehouse and i have never looked back. It Is small enough to fit in my garage workshop, but big enough to be useful on all my projects!

This version has these features.

  • Features magnetic safety switch
  • transparent chuck guard
  • adjustable depth stop
  • adjustable table.
  • 350W
  • 5-Speed
  • 13mm Keyed Chuck

I had to buy a drillpress 6″ Vice, which gives me a 3rd pair of hands. The construction of this bench tool is very good, and is well centred and did not really need attaching to the bench but I still felt it wise!  My Bench-tops are all 900mm high, but due to me being a tall lad I had to raise this bench tool by 50mm still to make it comfortably for me to do continuous work.

I am going to give this tool 4 Stars ****

(I knocked together out of off-cuts, a tray for all my loose drill bits, Very very useful!)

Review Of Power Performance 190mm Bandsaw

I have three main bench tools, a 190mm Bandsaw, 50mm DrillPress and Compound Sliding Mitre Saw. I also have a 16″ Fretsaw and a 300mm Bandsaw (HSS Blade for metal) but in this page I will go into detail of the first three bench tools as these are the tools i use the most in my projects.

190mm Bandsaw

Since I was at Secondary School (High School in the US) and in the Design and Technology woodwork classes. I have always wanted my own Bandsaw. Sad as that may sound since I have had this Bandsaw I have been through 6 blades, as I seem to use it in so many of my projects. This Bandsaw was not brought by choice, it was a present from my other half. As I had been given an old Bandsaw from an old work place, due to “they said that the band kept slipping,” But a good clean out and reseating the back guide wheel, and the saw was good to go, but over a couple of months the repairs had warn out and it was starting to become Dangerous! So I now have the Bandsaw you see below.

Brand: Performance Power (B&Q)

Safety Cut Out: No

Warranty/guarantee: Guarantee (2 years)

WEEE Requirements: Elec & Electronic Tools

Power (Volts): 240

Power (Watts): 350

Category: Table, Flip Over & Combination Saws

Other: Cast aluminium table and rip fence

Dust extraction facility cleaner work area

Cutting angle 0°~45°

Guide for accurate mitre cuts

Easy blade adjustment and replacement

But given that it is a Very useful power tool to my carpentry arsenal. But there are a few things that i must say, like all Bandsaws the blade does wander, so I find my self free hand cutting most of my strait cuts.  Also the size of the bandsaw it only gives you a 190mm depth cut on your piece, but for all the small pieces that I make it is fine. And MAKE SURE YOU BUY GOOD QUALITY BLADES! When I got this Bandsaw it came with a blade and it was not the best blade seemed very thin and flimsy, but a month ago I brought the wrong blade for the old bandsaw and it fit this new one. and cutting comenced!

I give this Saw 4 Stars ****

(One thing that I had to do, is when attaching the bandsaw to the Bench is clamp the stand down to reduce the Vibrations, as you can see in the picture above)
