Luxury Holiday Villa Inspired by StarTrek Movie

Well if you are reading this you are probably thinking that “OMG someone is doing a villa based on Star Trek,” well I have not! All I said was that is was “inspired by a Star Trek Movie.

On the last Saturday passed I was sat just watching what ever was on TV in the afternoon, and as usual for the UK not much was on. But I did spot Star Trek “First Contact” and decided to put it on, and pick up my laptop and start browsing the web. Before I knew it I had put down the laptop and stared watching the Movie.  Then came the inspriration, after the Borg had attacked planet earth, there were people repairing the damage from the attack. And then I spotted it! These little huts that people were living in, they had a big cirular entrance at the front and a slanted roof that was higher towards the back.

And so the idea was born.

Unfinished view of the villa from the front.

I have only started this design and properly wont be finished for a couple of days. but it is really coming to life, as the wheather here in the East Midlands is hot for this country. So I can just picture it now this lovely and yet simple design. The building it self is 7 meters wide by 10 meters long, and 6.7 meters tall at the highest point, (but I do plan to make it a bit longer as there is an idea lurking in my head.)

As normal with me this building is going to be a Sustainable Design incorporating lots of Green Functions. Solar Panels on the roof and a Grey Water Collection System. Double glazing for all the windows, Solar Hot Water System as well.

With this simple design is a basic 1 Bedroom Accommodation, with a kitchen, bathroom / WC on the first floor and a utilty room in the plans. It has a open balcony at the front (for those hot summer nights,) and both the upstairs and the downstairs windows are “Half Moons” in shape. The stairs to the first floor are a Real Modest Design, and when design the stairs I have done a separate file which can be found on my Free Downloads Page Here.

Stairs rendered in Plywood, to give you an idea how simple this deign is going to be.

Well keep coming back to see how this project progresses.  I am thinking this won’t disappoint so long as you can get passed that this building was based around some inspiration from a Star Trek Movie. You will find loads more design on my website. click the Latest Posts link up the top to see all the designs I have done recently.

This design can be download in Draftsight .dwg file format (autoCAD compatible) and Sketchup .SKP format from My FREE DOWNLOADS PAGE Here

New Stair Design For My New Concept Dream House

When I first did my dream house design, I based it around the stairs but now that I look back at it, there are things I want to change namely the size. But in doing so I have decided to re-design the stairs, not only will the Main stairs not be a pair but I want a curling design. That all being said I still would like that “wow” factor, and so we have the basis for my design. Also the design must fit in a space of 8meters by 8meters with enough room to get around the room, also give the impression of great space, in a room that will probley end up 5meters tall.

“Not a hard job you say” but this was quite a challenge for me to work out how to fit it, in the end as you will see from the picture below I had to sit the stairs on a central point to the room, in 5meter by 5meter square.

Bit I have really like when making this design was the hand rails one being solid and the other being segmented. Recessing the inner rail was something that happened by chance but I think it really opens out the whole staircase. I have added  a gallery for all the pictures that i took while construting the design. take your time to have a look through.

And I will upload the design as soon as I get chance, you will find it on my FREE DOWNLOADS page here, and on my GrabCAD.com profile as well

A 2D Concept Design To A 3D Dream

when i started my design for my “dream workshop” I would never thought I could bring it so close to life with one 3D model. I started the design of my dream workshop on Draftsight a 2D CAD Program. and fond my self exploring the realms of building and construction design, and all the regulations that go hand-in-hand with them. And by the end of my design (which I wish i could say was finished, but is not) I found a real interest for designing complictaed parts of a building.

The scale drawing of my concept workshop

Discover DraftSight: Free CAD Software.

Half way through the design, I found I had to get from the bottom floor to the first floor, now as we know there are 3 ways of doing this in a building, by Ramp, by Elevator, or by Stairs. Well I whent for the latter of the three and started to work out how I wanted these stairs to look. But more importantly…

  • How many?
  • By what height?
  • And by what depth?

These are very important questions to ask when designing stairs! So I set about with my calculator and BAM I was hooked. These stairs started taking a life of there own in my head. And finally I had the plans strait, and my 2D design was made.

Then when I started using SketchUp I started looking at all the 2D CAD designs in my arsenal, and what designs I wanted to transform into 3D CAD Models. So when I selected these stairs for modelling it was a no brainier, as it was a great design that was well thought out.

A very simple design, but practical to reach the 1st floor 4 meters up.

As you can see well thought out

Well I hope you like my 3D Model, and hope this will inspire more people to look twice at simple parts of bigger designs.

I will be uploading these models to my GrabCAD.com profile, and as always be available on my FREE DOWNLOADS page here

Concept Glass Exhibition Hall Design

This is a strange design that started as a “mess-around” with a square shape and resulted in a concept exhibition hall. I don’t ever think this could be made to work without a lot of input from engineers with a big background in glass structures. But that put aside it is a great idea I think, with two floors and a ramp to access the first floor. And the whole building being built of 3layer glass and steel panels. If you would to to find out more, or would like to use my idea please get in contact Click Here

This view from the back of the building show a exit, that doubles as a fire exit.

This side view show the idea of the construction with with big glass and steel walls that are not set to 90′ to the ground, which gives the “jilted” look to the structure.

This birds-eye view of the structure gives you the grand scale of how this building will be eye catching.

This view gives you an idea of the sliding windows, there is 4 of them set into the roof of this structure. The primary function is to provide ventilation to the building, due to the structure being made of glass it would get very hot in the sun.

I will post this design on my FREE DOWNLOADS page soon Click Here

3D Concept Stairs Designs

How Did This Come About?

I have stared using Google’s SketchUp to design my woodworking plans, and in-turn decied to design my dream house. While doing this design I had to layout the stairs that I wanted in the house and so I found I have a big interest in designing stairs. You will find three examples of my stair designs, “Dual Grand,” “Curl,” and “Centre Chalice.”

All these designs can be modified, or if you have a design in mind I can build the 3D model to your specifications, To get in contact Click Here

Centre Chalice

Based around the look of a ‘Chalice’ cup, this a centre elevated design with solid hand rails. this design inspiration came from the thought of old ”Georgian Country mansions.” You can really imagination a duchess walking down the centre of this staircase with a big flowing ball gown draping behind her. This design have been made on a 8meter by 8meter plateau, the upper floor stands with the deck being 3meters high.

Dual Grand

This design is the original plans for my concept “Dream House.” It is a dual staircase design with inner curves, and flat to wall outer faces. This design ins based on a 10meter by 10meter plateau, with the deck of the upper floor being 4meters high. (Please note that the hand rails have not been designed yet.)

Curl

Curl is sleek idea based around a geometric curve, I think this design would go very well in a modern grand house design. The hand rails are just solid at the moment but with a little client input could become a grand feature. This design have been made on a 8meter by 8meter plateau, the upper floor stands with the deck being 3meters high.
