A Day Out At PeakRail Sunday 28th Aug 2011
Well the Bank Holiday Came and went, but what did you do?
Well my fiancé and myself had decided to go to Matlock in Derbyshire for the day, and when I Googled Matlock, Peak Rail Railway came up and that was it I had to go. So after I had persuaded my fiancé and grabbed my camera we were off to Peak Rail in Matlock.
Peak Rail is a preservation railway with 3 Stops, you can easily get to Peak Rail from the Matlock Train Station For More details check out http://www.peakrail.co.uk/
But as we got there I had noticed that I had forgotton my memory card for my camra, so I only got 10 photos before the internal memory filled up, So here they are…
The view down the platform from when we got off the train
Me looking well chuffed that we were spending the bank holiday Sunday at a preservation railway (would have been better if I had remembered to bring my memory card tho)
This is the front of the train we caught to get to the main stop to look around
This close up shows that it is 68013
Even though Peak Rail Have a Turntable at the Rowsley South Station unfortunately at Matlock station they have no way of getting the steam engine to the front of the train to take us to Rowsley South, so we were pulled by this well kept Class 31 (sorry I did not get the no. As I am not a train-spotter, I just enjoy the trains)
As walking down the Rowsley rail yard I spotted this great Class 37
This great looking Class 08 sits outside the home of the Heritage Shunters Trust
Then something that took my breath away, was the sight of these two Class 50′s (50029 and 50030) These two magnificent trains are being restored by Renown Repulse Restoration Group, I must say thank you to the chap that was working on a load of parts for the Class 50′s that afternoon (even though I did not catch his name, but sure you know who you are) For all the information on the project that the Renown Repulse Restoration Group are doing on these Class 50′s. Even My fiancé was taken in by the talk as you will see in this next picture…
Well what a beautiful sight! And before you think it, I did not make her pose, she wanted her picture taking! So you can guess what my Computer desktop photo is. This has also prompted me to think about getting two Class 50 00 gauge models for my new Layout I am going to build.
Also I would like to thank the chap (again did not catch his name, but sure he knows who he is) from the LMS Carriage Association that took time to speak to us about the work that the LMS Carriage Association were doing at Peak Rail. Wish I would have remembered my memory card as would have been great to get some snaps of the carriage he was working on. But I am sure I will be going back in the future…
Well that what I did on the bank holiday Sunday!
